Serverless computing frameworks are widely regarded as the next big thing in enterprise IT because they are based on an event-driven architecture that makes servers, storage and networking resources dynamically available as needed using a programming construct known as functions. But DevOps teams are challenged in finding a way to orchestrate all those functions in concert with one another.

AWS and VMware now are partners but it might be only a matter of time before AWS moves to take its own path.

Platform9 added an open source workflow framework to its Fission service platform that is designed to extend the functionality of serverless technology deployments.

Platform9 announced a new $22 million Series C round of funding on June 28, bringing total funding to date for the managed cloud services vendor up to $36.5 million. The new round was led by Canvas Ventures and included the participation of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE), Redpoint Ventures and Menlo Ventures.

Eleven new fundings were added to the rounds raised in the last week of the first half of the year, including six that brought in $20 million or more.

Decency: Limited partners have voted to wind down the latest fund of Binary Capital, previous home to accused sexual harasser Justin Caldbeck, Bloomberg reports. That fund is a $175 million vehicle which closed last year and had hardly been deployed. (After the accusations toward Caldbeck arose, the firm had already put the close of a $75 million extension to that fund on hold.)

Platform9, a startup that’s seen spectacular growth over the last year by delivering on-premises OpenStack-based infrastructure, managed by a cloud software layer, revealed on Wednesday that it had closed another funding round.

This startup founded in Sunnyvale, Calif. by former VMware engineers delivers OpenStack cloud orchestration and Kubernetes container orchestration as turnkey solutions to customers and channel partners.

Linux containers have taken infrastructure computing by storm. What started with Linux VServer, OpenVZ, cgroups, and LXC has gained momentum with the rise of Docker.
