Platform9 Extends Enterprise Private Cloud Lead with Site Recovery, AI Infrastructure Upgrades in Latest Release

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 15, 2026 — Platform9, the enterprise private cloud company, today announced its latest release of Private Cloud Director, delivering capabilities that close the remaining gaps between Private Cloud Director and VMware for enterprises managing complex, multi-site infrastructure and AI workloads. The release reflects direct customer and partner feedback, addressing the operational capabilities most frequently requested by enterprises evaluating Private Cloud Director as their VMware alternative.

Key features include:

  • Granular Role-Based Access Control: This release introduces new administrative roles backed by a new policy engine. Operators can now delegate administrative authority at the appropriate scope: tenant, customer domain, or service-provider level, without granting platform-wide access.
  • Platform9 OS (Rocky Linux by CIQ): Platform9 OS, paired with the new Host Management Console, provides a guided installation and configuration experience that allows VMware administrators to deploy KVM-based hypervisor hosts without Linux shell access or deep OS expertise.
  • VM-to-Host Affinity for Stretched Clusters: Private Cloud Director now supports VM-to-Host Affinity for stretched clusters, enabling enterprises to deploy active-active infrastructure across two physical sites or failure domains.
  • Cross-Cluster Cold Migration: VMs can be moved across cluster boundaries while powered off, enabling workload rebalancing, hardware consolidation, and cluster lifecycle management without VM recreation.
  • vGPU Live Migration: Virtual machines with vGPUs can now live-migrate on Ubuntu 24.04 hosts, eliminating the requirement to shut down GPU workloads before performing host maintenance. This release also adds support for advanced multi-vGPU flavor configuration across all hosts.

“Enterprises need a solution built for the infrastructure challenges they’re facing right now,” said Madhura Maskasky, co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Platform9. “This release delivers site-aware disaster recovery, enterprise access controls, and live migration for GPU workloads. The path forward has never been more capable or more accessible.”

Platform9’s Private Cloud Director, built by the original creators of VMware vCloud Director, delivers a familiar private cloud experience with the enterprise features organizations depend on: VM High Availability, Dynamic Resource Rebalancing, VM Live Migration, Distributed Virtual Switches, and Software Defined Networking all running on customers’ existing infrastructure.

vJailbreak Continues to Operate with VDDK

Broadcom’s withdrawal of VDDK (Virtual Disk Development Kit) licensing for third-party migration tools has disrupted several alternatives in the VMware migration market. Platform9 confirms that vJailbreak is unaffected; it continues to operate with VDDK, and the automated migration workflows customers rely on remain intact.
