Platform9 CEO Sirish Raghuram says an Arbitrage capability added to the Platform9 Managed Kubernetes service can now continuously monitor Spot and standard EC2 instances to determine where the most cost-effective location is for a Kubernetes cluster based on the service level agreements (SLAs) established.

The solution provides improved cloud cost control for organizations by continuously evaluating the pricing of cloud resources against target SLAs to automatically decide whether Spot instances or standard EC2 instances are deployed.

Platform9 recently released ‘Arbitrage,’ which allows users to dynamically run nodes in a cluster on Amazon EC2 Spot Instances. The company also offers solutions for Kubernetes management, a serverless framework, and more.

With Arbitrage, users can now define the total number of nodes in a Kubernetes cluster and deploy them as Spot Instances on Amazon EC2.

Fission is an open-source Functions-as-a-Service serverless framework for Kubernetes designed by Platform 9, a hybrid cloud and container orchestration provider. Fission was built as an alternative to AWS Lambda.

The project was created at Platform9 to help make their customers more productive on the very first day they installed their own Kubernetes cluster. “You can build functions the same way you do, for example, on AWS Lambda, but you can run them anywhere on any Kubernetes cluster,” said Vasani.
