Multi-Tenancy in Platform9 Private Cloud Director: Architecture, Identity, and Operational Control
CHALLENGE
VMware’s vSphere was never built for true multi-tenancy. Folders and resource pools offered organizational grouping, but enforcing hard resource boundaries, tenant-scoped networking, and identity-driven access control required layering on additional products like Aria Automation and NSX — each with its own license, deployment, and operational burden. For enterprises serving multiple business units or service providers managing dozens of customers, the result was a fragile patchwork that grew more complex and expensive with every tenant added.
