How ValorC3 Rebuilt Its Cloud Business on Platform9 Private Cloud Director

ValorC3, a digital infrastructure provider built on three pillars, colocation, cloud, and connectivity, ran its cloud business on VMware through the VMware Cloud Service Provider program. When Broadcom restructured the VCSP program into an invite-only model that excluded most regional providers, ValorC3’s remaining option was to resell capacity on someone else’s platform. For a company whose cloud is a core pillar, that was never on the table.
Rather than recreate VMware feature for feature, ValorC3 focused on what its customers and cloud operations actually needed: native multi-tenancy, operational simplicity, compatibility with existing infrastructure, and a clear migration path, all on an open-source foundation. After evaluating a DIY OpenStack deployment, Apache CloudStack, and Platform9 Private Cloud Director, the company chose Platform9 for the flexibility and economics of OpenStack and KVM combined with a SaaS-managed control plane that cut operational complexity.
The result was more than a VMware replacement. ValorC3 used Private Cloud Director as the foundation for Valor Cloud, a new fully managed private cloud offering with integrated Veeam data protection, predictable economics, and a phased path off VMware that lets existing and new environments run in parallel during migration.
Today ValorC3 is migrating its own VMware customers to Valor Cloud and taking the offering to market as a growth product, with a foundation ready to extend into Kubernetes and AI workloads. As SVP Justin Fox put it, “this isn’t a feature-parity exercise. If you start with a checklist of every VMware feature, you’ll likely end up optimizing for the past instead of the future.”
