Platform9, which bills itself as an “open distributed cloud company,” today announced that it closed a $26 million funding round led by Celesta Capital with participation from Cota Capital, NGP Capital and other investors. CEO Bhaskar Gorti said that the new cash will be used to drive Platform9’s go-to-market strategy and product research and development, particularly as the company seeks out larger-scale enterprise deployments.

Cloud company Platform9 has hired Bhaskar Gorti, formerly of Oracle and Nokia, as CEO. Gorti (pictured) will be based at the Platform9 headquarters at Mountain View, California. Gorti said: “The market opportunity for our products and technologies is extraordinary. Having created a new category, open distributed cloud, we are uniquely positioned to democratize cloud computing.”

Bhaskar Gorti, the former President of Nokia Software, has boarded the cloud native train with a new job as CEO at cloud management specialist Platform9. The move puts Gorti right at the heart of telco cloud developments.

Platform9 announced that Bhaskar Gorti has joined as its new Chief Executive Officer. Bhaskar Gorti is a global software executive who brings decades of experience in building innovative and passionate teams focused on accelerating growth through customer-centricity, digitalization, and automation. He has previously held top industry positions including Senior Vice President at Oracle Corporation and President of Nokia Software and Chief Digital Officer.

Multicloud Kubernetes-as-a-Service provider Platform9 has added a variety of new enterprise capabilities to its Platform9 5.4 release to simplify the management of multi-cluster and multicloud Kubernetes deployments.

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation’s flagship Kubernetes (K8s) conference, KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2021 (aka “KubeCon”), was held as a live event at the Los Angeles Convention Center and virtually Oct. 13-15, 2021 (with a pre-event on Oct. 11-12).

Platform9 said its Managed Kubernetes-as-a-Service provided Norna with the simplest and fastest path to running its production, cloud-native data harvesting, and processing applications, enabling Norna to quickly deploy Kubernetes clusters with a rich set of pre-built, cloud-native services and infrastructure plug-ins.

Platform9 is looking to provide enterprises a complete SaaS management plane for Kubernetes. The Platform9 Managed KubeVirt (PMK) provides a unified platform to run virtual machines (VMs) alongside containers, filling in some gaps IT uncovers when using traditional virtualization solutions.

Platform9 offers managed Kubernetes-as-a-Service (KaaS) that abstracts any infrastructure, making it ideal for nascent edge computing deployment scenarios.
