The Power of Mentorship in the Tech Industry
Last month, at the Startup Grind Global conference I had the pleasure of moderating a discussion with Garry Little about the power of mentorship in the tech industry.
Gary is the co-founder and general partner at Canvas Ventures, an early-stage VC firm based in the Bay Area. Gary has been a VC for more than 20 years, focused mostly on enterprise software companies. Besides Canvas, he worked at Morgenthaler Ventures and Venrock. He led investments in MuleSoft (one of the largest US tech IPOs of the last 5 years), NexTag, TimesTen, Sonatype, Evernote, Adara, Kinetica, Folloze, and Totango to name a few. Gary’s been named to the Midas List twice. Before his venture career, Gary held executive positions at Apple, Sun, and IBM.
Gary has led the Series C investment in Platform9 and serves on our board, where I got the benefit of his mentorship and guidance.
Check out the short video of our discussion below, to learn about the power of mentorship. Gary shares examples for when mentorship has led to a meaningful impact on the business, how to find the right mentor, tips for getting the most out of the relationship, and more.
