Unleash greater flexibility and resilience: Private Cloud Director's April 10th release is here!

The wait is over for our Private Cloud Director users. We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of our latest feature-rich release, which launches on April 10th!

To stay ahead in the cloud landscape, constant innovation is required, and our new 8-week release schedule ensures that you have access to the latest advancements at an accelerated pace.

The April release includes significant enhancements to flexibility, resilience, and scalability, as well as new Kubernetes and self-hosted features that put you in control of your cloud operations.

What’s new in the April 10th release

Prepare to elevate your private cloud experience with these powerful new capabilities:

Multi-cluster support within a single region

Gain unprecedented flexibility to deploy multiple isolated clusters within a single region. Multiple cluster support unlocks robust use cases, allowing you to:

  • Dedicate clusters for specific OS types to meet licensing requirements.
  • Isolate environments for different application teams, enhancing security and management.
  • For MSPs, it is easy to separate and manage individual customer environments.
  • Configure HA and DRR (workload distribution) on a per-cluster basis for tailored resilience.

Maintenance mode

Maintenance Mode has been enhanced to automatically evacuate virtual machines to available hypervisors and mark the node as non-schedulable. This greatly simplifies patching and OS maintenance tasks.

Resilience at its core

We’ve strengthened the platform’s reliability with key resiliency enhancements:

  • Resilient Image Management API: The Image Management API service now runs across multiple nodes (dependent on shared storage), ensuring a more robust and available image management experience.
  • Enhanced Persistent Storage API: The Private Cloud Director Persistent Storage API has been fortified with improved health checks and redundancy updates, leading to greater stability for your critical storage.

Proven scalability

This release has undergone rigorous scale testing, demonstrating its ability to handle demanding environments with support for up to 600 hosts per region and 3000 VMs.

Next-level Kubernetes integration

We’re committed to providing a first-class Kubernetes experience:

  • Kubernetes on physical nodes: Private Cloud Director now supports running Kubernetes directly on physical nodes, offering greater performance and control for containerized workloads.
  • Support for Kubernetes v1.32: Our support for version 1.32 allows you to stay current with the latest Kubernetes features and improvements.

Resource adjustments with hot-add API

Experience greater agility with the new hot-add for CPU and RAM. Dynamically increase VM resources without any downtime. (Please note: Resizing will fail if the requested resources exceed the current node’s capacity, as live migration is unavailable.)

User interface enhancements

Manage your environment more efficiently with a refreshed user experience.

Direct Object Editing: You can edit VMs, Volumes, Networks, and more directly from their respective Details Dashboards, streamlining configuration changes.

Asynchronous multi-image upload

Upload multiple images simultaneously in the background and track their progress via the enhanced Image Management dashboard.

Brand new service health dashboard

Gain immediate insights into the health of your hypervisor nodes and each running Private Cloud Director service, enabling proactive monitoring and troubleshooting.

Enhanced monitoring with Prometheus

With the introduction of Prometheus for hypervisor and VM metrics, you can gain deeper visibility into your infrastructure. Benefit from 30 days of historical data, which will now power Dynamic Resource Rebalancing. Stay tuned for future enhancements to remote monitoring, dashboards, and reports leveraging this powerful integration.

Simplified DNS management with DNS-as-a-Service (DNSaaS) GUI

Our new DNSaaS, powered by Designate, simplifies DNS management with support for Bind and Infoblox integrations. Configure DNS records via API or the intuitive web user interface for automated updates of your cloud resources.

Advanced traffic distribution with Load Balancer-as-a-Service (LBaaS) GUI

Introducing software Load Balancer as a Service (LBaaS), powered by Octavia with the OVN provider driver. Configure advanced traffic distribution for high availability and reliability through the API or the web user interface.

Self-hosted Private Cloud Director advancements

We’re continuing to enhance our self-hosted offering with granular backup and restore. Building on the February introduction of Management Plane backup, this release adds the ability to backup specific regions, providing more granular control over your disaster recovery strategy.

Early access: Application stack feature (terakube API)

Get a glimpse into the future with our new Application Stack feature (early access). This API supports OpenTofu and terakube, allowing self-service users to quickly deploy entire application stacks—including multiple VMs, networks, load balancers, and DNS.
