Amazon Web Service’s re:Invent conference is one of the premier public IaaS cloud computing conferences. Check out all the latest products and services vendors at this year’s show are announcing or displaying in Las Vegas.

Already available for KVM, Platform9 made its private cloud software, Managed OpenStack, available for VMware vSphere environments last month. At the same time, the company raised $10m in series B funding, bringing total funding to $14.5m.

A new infrastructure stack is evolving with the principal elements being flash storage, hyper-convergence/Server SAN, OpenStack and containers.

The IT industry is defined by change – both the new technologies and the impact that these have on business. In the CUBE Conversation video below, Brian Gracely and I provide analysis on the shifting infrastructure stack and what limitations or gaps need to be taken under consideration.

Here’s the TL;DR – Practitioners, vendors and analysts say the open source cloud platform is ready for enterprises, but it’s no cake-walk. OpenStack is not easy to deploy and manage. But then again, no private cloud is.

VMblog stopped by the Platform9 booth during VMworld 2015 and had a great conversation and received a really nice demo of the company’s OpenStack solution.

While the traditional infrastructure virtualization and cloud building solutions seen at VMworld in the past were pretty cool, with 2015’s conference, VMworld looks more and more like the IT industry’s premier storage event.

Last week, thanks to Tech Field Day, I got to meet up with Platform 9 again. I’ve already talked about them in the past but I can’t refrain from doing so again. Platform 9 is doing a brilliant job and it makes Openstack easier to adopt.
