Those daunted by the complexity of using Kubernetes to manage containerized applications can now outsource the work to Platform9.

Since the launch of the company, which I was pleased to be able to cover a lot of exciting changes and growth with Platform9 over the last couple of years. What began as the OpenStack-as-a-Service focus has expanded to embrace both feature additions within the OpenStack offering as well as the addition of Docker and Kubernetes management.

Platform9 just announced the general availability of its Managed Kubernetes service, the industry’s first infrastructure-agnostic, SaaS-managed offering. Unlike legacy software distribution models, Managed Kubernetes is deployed and managed entirely as a SaaS solution, across on-premises and public cloud infrastructure.

Do we need more Kubernetes as a service? Platform9 thinks so. This week, the company introduced what it calls the first implementation of Kubernetes as a managed service.

The company has just announced the general availability of its Managed Kubernetes offering along with the introduction of a new, open-source, serverless framework built on the Kubernetes container orchestration tool that it claims is an alternative to Amazon Web Services’ Lambda.
