Startup’s OpenStack Business Growing on Ease of Deployment

When a cloud service provider promises “five nines” of uptime per year (i.e. 99.999 percent), it means a customer shouldn’t expect more than five-and-a-half minutes of downtime over a 12-month period.

Cloud infrastructure provider Platform9 has announced that OpenStack users will now get high availability capability on their deployments.

Today, they’re coming out with a managed Kubernetes Container-as-a-Service platform with support for the Docker container runtime engine . In true Platform9 style, they’ve made the service Enterprise-ready, by integrating RBAC, multi-tenancy, SSO, persistent storage, fine-grained network isolation and image management.

Many organizations, especially those following a DevOps model, are switching to or adding containers for their apps. Platform9 is adding support for containers via a management platform for Kubernetes, in addition to Linux KVM and vSphere.

Ben Kepes writes: Platform9’s managed Kuberentes service is touted as an “enterprise-ready container management platform that makes it easy to orchestrate containerized workloads, while providing mission-critical features for deploying and managing Docker containers in production and at scale.” It’s a smart play.
