VM Migration Failed Due to Insufficient Memory
Problem
VM migration fails due to the insufficient memory on the source host. Ostackhost logs shows cannot allocate memory error like below:
qemu-kvm: failed to initialize KVM: Cannot allocate memory
Environment
- Platform9 Managed OpenStack - v4.0 and Higher
Cause
Source host do not have enough memory available to migrate the VM.
Resolution
It is always recommended to have enough resources on the host running production workloads. But, in this situation we need to either stop some low priority VMs or add up more resources on the host.
