How to Avoid Downtime/Interruption on Host/Kernel Upgrades?
Problem
One or more hosts need to be brought down for maintenance, such as for applying kernel upgrades. Is it possible to avoid downtime?
Environment
- Platform9 Managed OpenStack - All Versions
- Ubuntu/CentOS/RHEL
Answer
Yes, features such as Canonical's Live-Patch or RedHat's kpatch can be used for upgrading kernels without rebooting the hosts.
Additional Information
Note that there is no direct support for kernel upgrades from Platform9. Please contact your Solutions Architect and/or the respective vendor to know if you can use this feature in your environment.
