Appctl Overview
Welcome to the Appctl Early Access Program. Platform9 is building the fastest way to build, deploy and run Kubernetes Native Applications, appctl.
Appctl is for app developers who want to run apps on Kubernetes, but want a simpler and easier way to consume Kubernetes without dealing with infrastructure constructs. Appctl’s mission is to enable developers to more easily operate their apps, while being Kubernetes native.
Learning to run cloud native applications on Kubernetes can be time consuming and often delays efforts to launch new products or impacts initiatives that aim to containerize existing applications. Appctl is 100% Kubernetes native and runs on a Platform9 Managed Kubernetes Cluster in AWS. By leveraging Kubernetes and Knative, Appctl allows users to deploy apps in seconds without the learning curve of Kubernetes.
To use Appctl, you don't need to learn about Ingress, LoadBalancer Service Types or Node Ports. All you need is a container image, a command line terminal on MacOS, Windows or Linux and you're good to go.
What is Appctl built on?
Appctl leverages Knative serving and Kubernetes. It is built entirely on CNCF open source technologies, and will be open-sourced itself in the near future. Out of the box, Appctl works against Kubernetes clusters in AWS, but it can be easily deployed on any CNCF Kubernetes environment on-premises, in the cloud or at the edge.
