Platform9 Managed KubeVirt 5.9 Release Notes

The Platform9 Managed KubeVirt version 5.9 release is now generally available with support for Kubernetes v1.25 and Kubevirt v0.59.2, bringing new features and enhancements.

This release adds key new features around persistent TPM support, VM snapshot restore and clone, managing advanced networking from UI, UX improvement for managing VMs, and added Operating System support for Ubuntu 22.04, Rocky 9.2 & RHEL 8.7.

Kubernetes v1.23 is marked as End of Life on PMK 5.9. New clusters are to be created on Kubernetes v1.25. All clusters must be upgraded to at least Kubernetes v1.23 (recommended 1.24) before upgrading from PMK 5.7/5.8 to PMK 5.9.

Kubernetes v1.24 is marked as deprecated. New clusters should be created on Kubernetes v1.25.

Release Highlights

New Features

  • Added support for the following Operating systems - Ubuntu 22.04, Rocky 9.2 & RHEL 8.7.
  • Added support for VM Snapshot, restore and clone via CLI. Limited to CSI storage. Verified with rook-ceph.
  • Added support for KubeVirt VMs to work with Persistent Trusted Platform Module (TPM) support.
  • Added support to customize CPU and Memory Over-commitment to increase VM density on clusters.
  • Added features for advanced networking configuration in PMK UI.
  • Added an improved Kubevirt navigation menu with storage, networking and configuration management from UI.

Kubernetes Support and Add-ons

  • Support for Kubernetes v1.25 as the active Kubernetes release.
  • KubeVirt addon upgraded to v0.59.2.

Bug Fixes

Fixed Fixed a bug in UI that prevented OVS interface IP addresses from being shown in the Networks lists in the VM Instance view.

Known Issues

Known Issue Intermittent errors may be seen in pf9ctl when onboarding nodes at scale; retrying should resolve the issue.
