1. Simple switch between Platform9 Managed OpenStack and Platform9 Managed Kubernetes deployments

With this release, the Platform9 Clarity UI provides a way to switch between your OpenStack and Kubernetes deployments, resulting in a curated view of the appropriate resources and workloads.

2. Better failover for Neutron deployments

The Platform9 Neutron service now supports multiple external networks, and the ability to automatically failover between multiple network nodes

3. Support for Heat and Murano application deployments by single sign-on (SSO) users

Platform9 OpenStack now includes the ability to allow SSO users to create, deploy and manage Heat stack and Murano applications. This capability was earlier restricted to only keystone users, but with this addition it now allows organizations to continue leveraging their identity provider investments without sacrificing OpenStack application functionality.

4. Platform9 Managed Kubernetes enhancements

  • New dashboard shows a combined view of resource usage across OpenStack and Kubernetes deployments
  • Setup wizard for Kubernetes guides users through setting up nodes and creating clusters
  • Improved workflow for attaching and detaching nodes to clusters
• Cluster Rolling Upgrades
  • Enables clusters to be upgraded to the latest version of Kubernetes and/or supporting Platform9 Managed Kubernetes software with no downtime for many workloads, minimal Kubernetes API downtime
  • All clusters will be upgraded automatically during the overall Platform9 product upgrade to 2.3. If you want to delay the upgrade due to the Known Issues listed below, please contact your Platform9 Customer Representative.
• Cluster Certificate Authority Decoupled from Cluster Nodes
  • Ensures the cluster CA survives cluster node failures
  • Required for secure, highly-available clusters coming in 2.4
• Keystone Authentication
  • Users can authenticate with the Kubernetes API using their Keystone identities

5. Bug fixes and product improvements

This release also contains a number of performance optimizations and bug-fixes that should result in a better user experience for your Platform9 cloud platform!

Known Issues:

1. WARNING: Once a host in a Neutron environment is de-authorized from Platform9, the workloads on that host will lose network  connectivity, even though the VM data itself remains untouched.
2. WARNING: A limited set of Pods and Volumes are erased during a cluster upgrade. Please see our support article for details.
3. If your application calls the Kubernetes API server and uses a Kubernetes Service Account, a cluster upgrade will invalidate the tokens your application uses to authenticate itself with the API server. Please see our instructions on refreshing the tokens. This issue will not affect upgrades from 2.3 onward.
